Damascus, June 11 (Xinhua-ANI): Five government troops were killed Monday by the explosion of a roadside bomb in Syria?s northern province of Idlib, pro-government Sham FM radio reported.

An army captain was among the killed, said the report, adding that an army checkpoint near Kafr Najed bridge also came under fire by armed men with reports of injuries among civilians.

In another incident, two improvised explosive devices went off at Masaken Barzeh neighborhood in the capital Damascus, killing one person and injuring another.

The first explosive was planted under a car, said the report, adding that the driver and the car were totally burnt.

The other explosive went off near a high school, hitting a university student and causing his legs to be amputated.

In the Damascus suburb of Jaramana, authorities intercepted a car rigged with 700 kgs of explosives, witnesses told Xinhua.

The 15-month-old unrest in Syria has become more militarized as clashes between government forces and armed rebels have hit a new high recently, taking place in several areas in the heart of Damascus. (Xinhua-ANI)
